At first this unique class was discovered in the 1890's but more completely it started to be discovered only after the First World War in Europe and in Soviet Union. Russian physicists performed a lot of experiments. The results showed that semiconductors may help to accelerate the fluctuations and maintain them. There was no possibility to develop some sophisticated devices as diodes. First transistor was created in Bell's laboratory in 1949. That event impacted on the fast development of semiconductor devices. That was the beginning of the era of semiconductor technologies.
The interest to optical features of semiconductors revived due to research of simulated emission in semiconductors. By usage of such principles as p - n barriers and heterojunction scientists managed to create laser device in the beginning of the 60's.
